TG To Supply Satellite Payload Operation Center
TG Embedded Systems, LLC announced that it has been selected by
Shin Satellite Public Company Ltd. of Bangkok, Thailand to supply the
Satellite Payload Operation Center (SPOC) for the iPSTAR-1 satellite. TG will
deliver a turnkey hardware and software solution that will
operate in conjunction with iPSTAR-1's satellite control facility and 18
regional gateways.
Shin Satellite will operate the iPSTAR-1 spacecraft, with a hybrid Ka-/Ku-band
communications payload, to provide last-mile Internet service, including new multi-media
and data services, to customers in Asia and Australia. iPSTAR-1 is being manufactured by
Space Systems/Loral, and is a variation of SS/L's high-power 1300 series satelltie bus.
Service is expected to start 3Q2005.
SPOC, monitoring numerous ground-based and on-orbit telemetry signals, will be used to
dynamically manage satellite power resources and hub gateway uplink signal
levels, to balance and optimize system capacity. Factors considered to perform this
management include spacecraft power availability, demand requirements of spacecraft
operations, user terminal demand, and prevailing weather conditions (i.e. rain fade).
